Orbe supports country and language recommendations for Shopify stores and connections between markets or stores. Its usefulness depends on the destination offering suitable catalogue, currency and service.

Geolocation does not fix incomplete translations or create international fulfilment capacity. Before installing an app, define real markets and what people can buy in each.

Country, language and currency are different

Someone in France may prefer Spanish; a travelling buyer may want delivery to their usual country. IP addresses are approximate signals, not irreversible choices.

Provide a visible selector and clear way to correct recommendations. Visitor control prevents VPNs or temporary locations trapping people in an unsuitable version.

Several storesDestination domain, equivalent products and switching experience

Orbe's public documentation describes recommendations and store connection options. Check the configuration and plan covering your case; do not confuse them with general stock or ERP synchronisation.

What the recommendation should say

Explain the suggested market and let visitors accept or continue. “Would you like to visit our store for France?” is clearer than claiming to know exactly where someone lives.

Fit the recommendation to the design without hiding important controls or obstructing mobile purchases. Review focus, closing and keyboard access alongside popup appearance.

URLs and international SEO

Google recommends identifiable URLs for language versions and access through links. Its multiregional and multilingual guide warns about automatic redirects preventing access to other versions.

Check canonicals, hreflang and links, ensuring geolocation does not make pages inaccessible to users or crawlers. An app described as SEO-compatible still requires configuration verification.

Market-by-market tests

  1. Direct product entry from an ad or organic result.
  2. Country and language recommendation on first visit.
  3. Rejecting it and staying in the chosen version.
  4. Later country changes without losing useful context.
  5. Products lacking an equivalent or availability at the destination.
  6. Price, currency and checkout delivery checks.

Review campaign parameters and variant links where relevant. A separate store does not necessarily find the same product because names are similar.

Catalogues and feeds must target the right context

Merchant Center, campaign and email links should lead to a page fulfilling the advertised offer. Redirecting to another currency or product can create inconsistency even within the same brand.

The Merchant Center guide covers catalogue connection; the multichannel guide helps organise data across sales destinations.

Check whether experience improves

Review sessions by country and destination, selector use, incidents and completed purchases. Compare equivalent periods and note other price, delivery or campaign changes. Do not attribute every conversion variation to geolocation.

Start with observable cases: visitors reaching unavailable catalogues, currencies differing from ads or incorrect shipping messages. These are more useful problems than a generic promise to recover some percentage of traffic.

We can help review markets and journeys through Shopify consulting or investigate store issues in an audit.
