Lesson #6 of the Shopify Academy from Migraciones.io.
Reading time: 7 min | Level: Basic
Imagine you walk into a physical store and it's completely empty. There are no customers, no salespeople talking to anyone. It gives you a bad feeling, right?
In e-commerce, reviews are like people inside the store. They are social proof that your product is real, that it arrives, and that other people like it. According to BrightLocal, 93% of consumers read online reviews before buying.
Shopify has a free app called "Product Reviews," but it's very basic. If you want to automate the process and also get your star ratings to appear on Google, you need Judge.me . We'll explain how to set it up step by step.
Step 1: Why Judge.me and not another?
We chose Judge.me as our recommended app for 3 reasons:
- Powerful Free Plan: Allows you to collect unlimited reviews, with photos and videos, and send automated emails. Most apps charge for this.
- Google Star Ratings (Rich Snippets): Judge.me generates the necessary code for your products to display star ratings in Google search results, increasing your CTR.
- Performance: It's optimized so as not to slow down your store.
2-minute installation:
- Go to the Shopify App Store and search for Judge.me Product Reviews .
- Click on Install .
- The installation wizard will guide you. Select your language and choose the "Automatic Installation" option to place the widgets in your theme.
Step 2: The magic is in the automated emails
The key is not waiting for the customer to leave a review. It's asking for it at the right moment.
Within the Judge.me app, go to Settings > Review Requests > Timing and Format .
- Trigger: Choose "Order Fulfilled". Never use "Order Paid", or you'll ask for the review before the package arrives.
- Request Timing: Allow a reasonable margin. If your shipments take 3 days, schedule the email for 10 days later . This gives them time to use the product.
- Reminders: Set a reminder after 7 days if they haven't replied.
Step 3: Customize the Widgets to fit your brand
Judge.me installs two main blocks in your store:
- Review Widget: The full block of reviews that appears at the end of the product page.
- Preview Badge: The little stars that appear below the product title (both on the product page and in the collections).
In Settings > Review Widget > Widget Body you can change the colors of the stars, buttons and text to align with your brand's color palette and not look like an add-on.
Step 4: Coming from another platform? Import your reviews
If you had reviews on WooCommerce, PrestaShop, or another app, don't lose them. Judge.me has an Import/Export feature.
You can upload a CSV file with your old reviews so you don't have to start from scratch. This is essential for maintaining social proof during a migration.
Frequently Asked Questions about Reviews with Judge.me
Can I respond to customer reviews?
Yes, and you should. Whether the review is good (to thank them) or bad (to offer a solution publicly). This shows that you care about your customers.
Do Judge.me stars always appear in Google search results?
Judge.me sends the correct structured data, but Google has the final say on whether or not to display it. Generally, if you have more than 5-10 reviews for a product, it's very likely they'll appear.
Can I request reviews of the store in general, not just of products?
Yes. Judge.me allows you to collect "Shop Reviews," which are very useful for your homepage or for Google Ads campaigns that measure brand reputation.
Does your store have 0 reviews?
Trust is the foundation of sales. We help you implement a "Social Proof" strategy that will boost your conversion rate.
